Happy New Year from Grade 2!
The last few days before Christmas break were quite busy in grade 2! Students focused on completing their passports as they traveled around the word in search of how others celebrate Christmas. Ask your child to share some of the interesting facts we learned like the favorite foods they eat around the world, some of their family traditions to how they say Merry Christmas!
This week was also a short week with two days off! This week students have been talking about the author’s purpose in reading. If you have some old magazines that we could use for one of our author’s purpose please send them in. In math students have been working on measurement. Encourage your second grader to show you an inch ruler and centimeter ruler and discuss the differences. Also, ask you child to measure objects first in inches then in centimeters as a follow up activity.
Students have gym class on Tuesdays. Students need to wear appropriate dress and sneakers. Students may keep a pair of sneakers at school.
Please encourage your child to bring warm clothing for recess! Don’t forget to label all clothing! Students should bring their winter gear EVERY day.
Our class is in need of the following items: magazines, tissues, baby wipes, stickers, notebooks, and old board games to transform into Daily 5 games (for example: Scrabble). We greatly appreciate any donation you can give to our class.
Thank you to friends who have donated items or time to our class. We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness!
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
