The Daigneault News weeks #11 & 12
Hello from second grade!
Last week was a busy but rewarding week. I was able to meet with many students and parents to discuss “Two Stars and a Wish” for their student. It was a positive share as we shared positives (Stars) and goals to focus on (Wishes).
Students have been busy this week preparing for their Thanksgiving play they plan to perform on Tuesday, November 22 Grandparent’s/Special Friend’s Day. Special invitations were sent home earlier this week with a daily schedule. After lunch children will gather and do a little turkey art and then say good bye to their guest/s. If you plan to allow your child to go home with their special guest (other than the child’s parent) after the play or lunch please send in a note giving permission.
Every year my class collects new and gently used books for our annual “Books for Tots” book program. If you have books you would like to donate please send them to our classroom and students will get them ready to donate to younger children in preschool/daycare settings.
Homework was sent home this past Monday, November 14. It is due on Monday, November 21! A reading log and cover letter explaining homework is in the packet. Please encourage your child to read and record minutes read and/or read to for our class bulletin board “Reading Minute Challenge”! Let’s watch our little owls (student owls) fly to the 5,000 minute mark by the end of the year for a special surprise!
Our Mystery Reader will be announced on December 1st! Be on the look out for next week’s reader! The Mystery Reader will select a special book he/she would like to read to the class on Thursday the following week. Please encourage your child, when chosen, to practice their book so they will be ready to read it to the class. I will help children choose developmentally appropriate reading books. On the unveiling day I will give clues to the class to see if they know who the Mystery reader is! Our reading specialists have many learning to read books for second graders. Just let me know if your child needs assistance.
The Star Student of the Week was Juno! We learned some interesting facts about her. Students completed a Star Student Times sheet to be compiled into a book at the end of the year! Brieanna is the next share student. I’m very excited to learn about everyone. We will each complete a Star Student page at the end of the week to be compiled into a book to bring home at the end of the year.
Wanted! I’m looking for donations of the following items: seasonal stickers, baby wipes, Scrabble game letter tiles, an old chair that looks like a throne for students to use as the “Author’s Share Chair” and tape measures (16) for our class. I greatly appreciate any donation you can give! Thank you very much to the grandparents, moms, dads and friends that have donated to our class!
