The Daigneault News

Hello from grade 3! We have had a busy productive week! Students have been focusing on multiplication and division in math. We also completed day 1 of our unit 1 assessment. Please continue to encourage your child to practice their multiplication fact cards that were sent home as homework on Wednesday. We also started our spelling program this week.. We have a few tweeks to make to make it a good fit program for our group. This week’s focus was consonant clusters. Reading assessments are almost done! I am excited to start reading conferences! In writing we focused on our maps of ideas that were near and dear to our hearts. In addition to our personal narratives we ended the week with our Friday letters to our parents.
We will no longer be able to eat an afternoon snack due to issues with messes left behind to playing and not working. Our daily schedule includes a morning snack only. I allowed an afternoon snack but have found many kiddos having difficulty balancing eating with working. I am sorry but I will have to cancel the afternoon snack. If your child would like a juice or drink that would be fine to have during reading. I hope you understand that the amount of time that has been consumed with an extra snack time has taken away from our reading. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Next week our class will be taking part in NEWA testing. Our class will be testing in the mornings from 9:00-10:30. It would be most helpful it students arrive to school each day on time so they can prepare for testing and properly go through their routines without rushing. Also, our day begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:15 (Wednesdays 2:15). When children are late (after 8:45) they need to play catch up and often are too late for snack an/or breakfast. I have also seen some kiddos get a little frustrated with jumping into learning after missing a lesson or arriving in the middle of a lesson. To ensure your child gets the best out of learning arriving before 8:45 is recommended. I understand the occassional doctor appointment and that isn’t an issue. I appreciate the heads up emails when you know your child has an appointment or is planning to be out. Thank you for taking the time to make sure your child arrives on time to school each day!
JUST A REMINDER- Planners MUST be signed every night and returned the following day. Students copy the assignment or write No HW from my planner board. All homework (worksheets) must be turned in by each Friday along with a week of signatures to earn one Daig dollar. If a child is absent or there is a no school day then no signature is required but any missed homework such as worksheets need to be turned in by the following Friday.
I am looking for someone who loves photocopying! I would love to have a volunteer come in 1-2 times a week to help prepare materials and/or photocopy. If you can spend 30 minutes or 1 hour that would be great. It’s a rewarding job where you get to work in an air conditioned room and meet lots of interesting people! If you are interested in a career of photocopying please let me know so I can prepare a basket of materials. If I have several volunteers I can create a rotating calendar. Once we set up a schedule then I can make sure I have a basket with the volunteer’s name so if I’m out or on duty you can come in and get your basket.
This week I have included our Scholastic Book Flyers.
Our class is in need of UNSENTED baby wipes for washing tables. Students can’t use the clearner with chemicals so we use a lot of baby wipes! Wipes must be unsented due to allergies to the sent.
