Happy fall from second grade!
Our class has teamed up with Mrs. Plante’s fabulous 6th graders as our Learning Buddies this year! Learning Buddies get together weekly for half an hour and focus on working together on a specific task. The task may be working on an interactive writing assignment to working on a Social Studies project to playing a reading skills game to anything academic. The 2nd graders are teamed up with a 6th grader and they spend their time on the specific task. Please ask your child what the task was today. Also, ask your 2nd grader to share our Learning Buddy Expectations on how to look and sound!
We are in need of notebooks (Composition notebooks would be best!) for our interactive spelling and interactive reading notebooks. Please have your child bring 2 notebooks to school by Tuesday, October 9! Thank you!
Second graders are continuing their work on procedures and routines. This is not just a beginning of the year assignment it’s a yearlong task. Ask your child the expectations for walking in the hallway, bathroom, assembly, fire drill, lockdown, lunch, recess and classroom. Check out our classroom constitution that we created together. Please encourage your child to review the expectations often so everyone is working together to have a great productive year of learning and fun!
Students celebrated Wyatt’s birthday this week. Happy birthday Wyatt!
This week our class focused on our wants and needs as part of our Economic Social Studies Unit. We also talked about writing mini plays to help teach about behavior. More information will be coming at a later date. Grade 2 students also started homework this week too. Please check out the parent letter that went home with your child’s homelwork log for due dates and important information.
Homework is not optional.
Homework packets are sent home on the first day of the school week and are due back the following first day of the week. Last Monday I sent home packet #3 which is due back on Tuesday, October 9! On Tuesday, October 9 I will send home packet #4.
Please encourage your child to learn his/her lunch pin number!
Please check your child’s Weekly Tote (white folder with the blue paw print) for weekly papers. Please remove the papers and return the tote to school. This week your child tote should have the following news from the classroom: week #5 newsletter.
My website is up and ready to view! I post my weekly newsletters, our daily schedule, the star student share schedule, information about the grade 2 common core standards and Daily 5 and some background information about me and our ABC’s on our Grade 2 Classroom.
Each week you will receive a paper copy of “The Daigneault News” which will inform you of classroom activities, upcoming events, homework information and school news. You may also visit my school website for information too! If your child lives in two houses and needs two sets of all materials sent home please let me know and I will set up an additional mailbox and/or mail materials. It’s important that I have everyone on the same page with events, progress and updates. Please let me know what works best for you and I’m more than happy to help any way I can!
I will do my best to inform you of special dates as far in advance as possible. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Every Friday your child will bring a weekly folder home with important school news. Please remove the contents and return the weekly folder to school on Monday. If you have lunch money or an important note please label and place the item/s inside the weekly folder. This will ensure that I receive important information.
I have implemented the Home-School folder this week as well. If your child needs a folder please let me know. Daily papers and notes are placed in the folder. It would be very helpful to label all student property since children have similar items.
We have a snack break every morning upon arrival. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack and drink.
Cooler weather is approaching and your child will need to dress appropriately. Please send layers of clothing with your child so they can adjust, as the days get cooler or warmer.
Students have gym class on Wednesday. Please send sneakers and appropriate dress.
Toys and electronics are not permitted in my class unless they remain in the students’ school bag. It is the responsibility of the student if a toy/electronic is lost or damaged.
A schedule for the “Star Student of the Week” is in your child’s Weekly Tote. Each week a different student will bring home a plastic portfolio box labeled “Mrs. Daig’s Star Student”. It will be sent home on Fridays and returned on Mondays. Your child may fill the portfolio box with items that pertain to him/her. Students are asked to bring items/pictures of items to school that are meaningful like a postcard of their summer trip to Hawaii, a piece of rose quartz from a quarry they once visited, or a favorite doll that someone crocheted. Items will be shared throughout the week and returned home on Friday.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
