The Daigneault News
week #20 January 18, 2019
This week students worked on wrapping up their unit 4 math assessments, Student Learning Goal assessments, Mid Year Math assessment and pre and post math assessments! It was a very busy week of testing! Students also worked on their opinion works of art for Martin Luther King Jr. and Cooper and Mr. Beakman from our read aloud book, Cooper and Packrat Mystery on Pine Lake. Second graders also focused on review week of skills from the first trimester during their Morning Jumpstarts. Please check out the review skills your child is working on and as always revisit these skills throughout the year.
Trimester 2 progress reports are going home today as well. I added some skills that students may continue to review so they can at least maintain. If you would like any additional ideas for activities to help your child at home please contact me.
Our class is looking for new or gently used pillows with arms for our work on the floor. I have 12 pillows and 16 kiddos. We are looking for a donation to add to our classroom. If you have one or more of these pillows and would like to donate them we would gladly accept what you can give! Working on the floor with pillows and carpet squares makes learning a little more comfortable! We are alos in need of baby wipes for students to wash tables after breakfast/snack/lunch. Only adults may use the Clorox/Lysol wipes and I have plenty but the kiddos need baby wipes without the harsh chemicals.
Winter is here! All students go outside every day UNLESS the temperature is below 16 degrees or it is raining. PLEASE remind you child to bring their gear even if it looks like foul weather. You never know what the weather will be like in Maine! It can be raining one minute and sunny the next! Students MUST have boots and snowpants to play in the snow. This is a P.C.S. rule. Students should also have a winter jacket, hat, scarf and mittens. Some recess days are very chilly but still warm enough for recess! We want all children to be warm and safe during the chilly winter months. If your child has extra snowpants, boots or sneakers to keep at school they may. They may store their gear in their cubbies. SNEAKERS are a must for gym class on Wednesdays! Also, students should have a pair of sneakers/shoes to wear in the classroom so their feet don’t overheat.
Homework packets are sent home on the first day of the school week and are due back the following first day of the week. If there is a holiday, workshop day or snow day homework is scheduled that week. Homework during vacations only will be optional!
Please check your child’s Weekly Tote (white folder with the blue paw print) for weekly papers. Please remove the papers and return the tote to school. This week your child tote should have the following news from the classroom: week #20 newsletter
We have a snack break every morning upon arrival. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack and drink.
Cooler weather is approaching and your child will need to dress appropriately. Please send layers of clothing with your child so they can adjust, as the days get cooler or warmer.
Students have gym class on Wednesday. Please send sneakers and appropriate dress.
Toys and electronics are not permitted in my class unless they remain in the students’ school bag. It is the responsibility of the student if a toy/electronic is lost or damaged.
Each week a different student will bring home a plastic portfolio box labeled “Mrs. Daig’s Star Student”. It will be sent home on Fridays and returned on Mondays. Your child may fill the portfolio box with items that pertain to him/her. Students are asked to bring items/pictures of items to school that are meaningful like a postcard of their summer trip to Hawaii, a piece of rose quartz from a quarry they once visited, or a favorite doll that someone crocheted. Items will be shared throughout the week and returned home on Friday.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
