The Daigneault News week #15
Greetings from second grade!
We had a short but busy week in second grade! This week students worked on time in math to focusing on specifis skills work during Writer’s Workshop with our Opinion Writing unit. If you would like to help your child in these areas please let me know and I can share some things you can do at home.
Every year my class collects new and gently used books for our annual “Books for Tots” book program. If you have books you would like to donate please send them to our classroom and students will get them ready to donate to younger children in preschool/daycare settings.
Homework was sent home this past Tuesday, December 13. It is due on Tuesday, December 20! A reading log and cover letter explaining homework is in the packet. Please encourage your child to read and record minutes read and/or read to for our class bulletin board “Reading Minute Challenge”! Let’s watch our little owls (student owls) fly to the 5,000 minute mark by the end of the year for a special surprise!
Our Mystery Reader for next Thursday, January 5, is ????! Be on the look out for following week’s reader! The Mystery Reader will select a special book he/she would like to read to the class on Thursday the following week. Please encourage your child, when chosen, to practice their book so they will be ready to read it to the class. I will help children choose developmentally appropriate reading books. On the unveiling day I will give clues to the class to see if they know who the Mystery reader is! Our reading specialists have many learning to read books for second graders. Just let me know if your child needs assistance.
The Star Student of the Week was Parker! We learned some interesting facts about him. Students completed a Star Student Times sheet to be compiled into a book at the end of the year! Parker is the next share student. I’m very excited to learn about everyone. We will each complete a Star Student page at the end of the week to be compiled into a book to bring home at the end of the year.
Remember to bring warm clothes for recess! Don’t forget your snow gear!
Wanted! I’m looking for donations of the following items: seasonal stickers, baby wipes, Scrabble game letter tiles, an old chair that looks like a throne for students to use as the “Author’s Share Chair” and tape measures (16) for our class. I greatly appreciate any donation you can give! Thank you very much to the grandparents, moms, dads and friends that have donated to our class!
