The Daigneault News
Week 1 Open House
Welcome to second grade! I have a lot of new and exciting things planned for this year and I hope you and your child will have a great learning experience.
I have a variety of ways I can communicate news but I will do what is best for each parent. News is posted in weekly newsletters on the website noted below, a hard copy of the weekly newsletters, emails, written notes sent home with the child or mailed, by telephone or as always, in person.
Each week you will receive a copy of “The Daigneault News” which will inform you of classroom activities, upcoming events, birthdays, homework information and school news.
I will do my best to inform you of special dates as far in advance as possible. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Please use the folder provided at the Open House station #1 to send important papers to school. Your child will bring important papers and school work home daily in the same folder as well. Your child will use their Home-School folder every day. On Fridays, I will place the Home-School folder inside their Weekly Tote.
Every Friday your child will bring a weekly folder home with important school news. Please remove the contents and return the weekly folder to school on Monday. If you have lunch money or an important note please label and place the item/s inside the weekly folder. This will ensure that I receive important information.
I do welcome volunteers in the classroom. You MUST see Ms. Barron in the office for information on volunteer training. A volunteer sign up sheet will be sent home the first week of school. Once training and paperwork are completed I will contact you. Due to getting to know each child and new routines I will be looking at scheduling volunteers sometime in September.
Students will also have homework in second grade. The homework will be light and consist of practicing already taught skills and a reading log.
We have a snack break every morning. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack and drink.
When cooler weather approaches, your child will need to dress appropriately. Please send layers of clothing with your child so they can adjust, as the days get cooler or warmer.
Students have gym class on Tuesday. Please send sneakers and appropriate dress.
Toys and electronics are not permitted in my class unless they remain in the students’ school bag. It is the responsibility of the student if a toy/electronic is lost or damaged.
A schedule will be sent home for the “Star Student of the Week”. Each week a different student will bring home a plastic portfolio box labeled “Mrs. Daig’s Star Student”. It will be sent home on Fridays and returned on Mondays. Your child may fill the portfolio box with items that pertain to him/her. Students are asked to bring items/pictures of items to school that are meaningful like a postcard of their summer trip to Hawaii, a piece of rose quartz from a quarry they once visited, or a favorite doll that someone crocheted. Items will be shared throughout the week and returned home on Friday.
Important information to be sent home the first week of school in Weekly Totes: Mrs. Daig’s Daily Schedule, Star Student schedule, The ABC’s of Mrs. Daig’s Class booklet, Specials schedule, Week #1 The Daigneault News, supply list, math coin letter, I Can Common Core packet and other news from the office.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
