The Daigneault News
weeks #6&7
October 13, 2017
Last week and this week students have been working on their Inquiry unit in science. They have been setting up their scientist briefcases and lab notebooks. They also focused on how scientists record information in the notebooks and make predictions and conclusions.
Charlie and Tyler were our Star Students of the week last week and Maddison was the Star Student this week. Our class learned a lot of new things about our Star Students! Come and check out our Star Student star pocket chart in the hallway! It is filled with the many things Maddison shared this week. Madelyn will be our Star Student of the Week the week of October 23 (I am ahead of schedule!).
Homework is due on Monday, October 16 Homework packet #5 will be sent home on Monday, October 16 and due the following Monday.
Our class is writing Harvest Stories as part of our Narrative unit in writing. Students will write their stories in class and then publish them. Students will be bringing a copy of their story along with a clean pizza box to transform into a book. Please encourage your child to create a book cover for their pizza box to match their story. On the inside they need to create a scene from their story and the other side glue their story. Completed projects are due by October 30th. In addition to designing a pizza box into a book students may create a costume to wear as they read their story. Please keep in mind all costumes MUST be appropriate and brought to school in a bag.
NO masks or makeup please! After our reading we will have a small snack. If you would like to send in paper products (plates, cups, napkins, plastic Ziplock baggies for leftovers, & plastic ware), drinks or other snacks we would love the donations.
I am thinking of sending out a pre-made calendar for volunteers. I am planning on making Thursdays our Flex Day. I will be scheduling volunteers for our Flex Time 2:30-3:00 on Thursdays. If you can’t make it on your scheduled day don’t worry just send an email or call so I can rearrange student groups and activities. I will send a calendar home next Friday in your child’s Weekly Tote. I will also include a welcome volunteer invitation with a date and time so volunteers can join our class and create a chart on how Flex Time should look and sound like. It is very important for everyone to be on the same page so students know what to expect. Thank you for your patience!
Please check your child’s Weekly Tote (white folder with the blue paw print) for weekly papers. Please remove the papers and return the tote to school. This week your child tote should have the following news from the classroom: weeks #6&7 newsletter and Trimester 1 Progress Report.
We have a snack break every morning upon arrival. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack and drink.
Treasure Box donations needed! If you have any items such as:
McDonald Happy Meal toys, bookmarks, pencils, small toys, pens, books, small trinkets (Dollar Tree items), notebooks, crayons, Playdough, necklaces, toy rings, erasers, Matchbox cars, or fun note pads we would love to have them for our Traesure Box! Students will have Treasure Box Day next Friday. Students have been earning Paw Coins for great classroom behavior and they are super excited to cash them in for treasure!
Cooler weather is approaching and your child will need to dress appropriately. Please send layers of clothing with your child so they can adjust, as the days get cooler or warmer.
Monday is Library Day! Don’t forget to bring your books! Students have gym class on Tuesday. Please send sneakers and appropriate dress.
Toys and electronics are not permitted in my class unless they remain in the students’ school bag. It is the responsibility of the student if a toy/electronic is lost or damaged.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
