Hello from grade2!
Due to the 1 1/2 day week for students last week I decided to combine last week and this week in one newsletter. As mentioned in previous newsletters students have the option to work on homework at school. The only homework is reading. Please focus on reading and completing the Books for Bikes and Dr. Seuss logs. As long as you turn in one log it will be counted towards both as well as our Reading Challenge. Reading is also part of weekly homework packets. Please encourage your child to complete the reading form every week even if they do not wish to participate in the Bikes for Books program. Owlets are still in the nest! Readers need to read in order to move their owl to the 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, & 5,000 reading minutes. The Reading Minute Challenge is on!
Conferences were held last week. If you didn’t schedule a conference and would like to have one please contact me to make arrangements.
Students are currently focusing on American Symbols and Landmarks in Theme Time.
During reading second graders are focusing on text features. How do text features help us locate information easier?
Our class is working on a mini Edit Skills unit in Writer’s Workshop. We have a pretend gumball machine that students will help fill with gumballs that students will earn by writing and editing their work. When the jar is filled we will have an Author’s Tea.
Students have gym class on Tuesdays. Students need to wear appropriate dress and sneakers. Students may keep a pair of sneakers at school.
Please encourage your child to bring warm clothing for recess! Don’t forget to label all clothing! Students should bring their winter gear EVERY day.
Our class is in need of the following items: magazines, tissues, baby wipes, stickers, notebooks, and old board games to transform into Daily 5 games (for example: Scrabble). We greatly appreciate any donation you can give to our class.
Thank you to friends who have donated items or time to our class. We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness!
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
