The Daigneault News week #8
Students learned a little about the voting process in grade 2 this week as they voted for the Student of the Month for October. Congratulations to our friend Mataeya! She will be awarded at the next Panther Pride Assembly on Thursday, October 27! Way to go!
Our Guided Reading groups are coming along nicely as well. Each student has a CAFE strategy, phonics skill/s, and other components to focus on each time we meet. Groups are currently focusing on “setting clues” as a Reader’s Respose activity. Please keep in mind that groups change due to data I collect with observations and running records on a weekly or biweekly basis.
Our Mystery Reader this week was Isabella! Be on the look out for next week’s reader! The Mystery Reader will select a special book he/she would like to read to the class on Thursday the following week. Please encourage your child, when chosen, to practice their book so they will be ready to read it to the class. I will help children choose developmentally appropriate reading books. On the unveiling day I will give clues to the class to see if they know who the Mystery reader is! Our reading specialists have many learning to read books for second graders. Just let me know if your child needs assistance.
The Star Student of the Week was Ella! We learned some interesting facts about her. Students completed a Star Student Times sheet to be compiled into a book at the end of the year! Brieanna is the next share student. I’m very excited to learn about everyone. We will each complete a Star Student page at the end of the week to be compiled into a book to bring home at the end of the year.
On Monday, October 31 the grade 2 team will be celebrating Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Day with a movie and activities. Students will rotate to the other grade 2 classrooms and create a fun educational activity or project. If you would like to send in a small treat on that day you may.
Wanted! I’m looking for donations of the following items: seasonal stickers, baby wipes, Scrabble game letter tiles, an old chair that looks like a throne for students to use as the “Author’s Share Chair” and tape measures (16) for our class. I greatly appreciate any donation you can give! Thank you very much to the grandparents, moms, dads and friends that have donated to our class!
