The Daigneault News week #6
This week students focused on singular/plural nouns and short vowel review in spelling. In writing students continued with their personal narratives and also worked on complete and incomplete sentences. Learners also played a Morning Meeting game to identify complete/incomplete sentences. Morning Jumpstart papers should be coming home so your child can share some of the skills we have been introducing/reviewing in class. Students work independently on the Morning Jumpstart and then corrects it with the class. In math students have been working on grouping by 10’s, addition number stories and doubles and combinations of 10. We started our first round of W.I.N. on Monday but needed to tweek groups to make sure all students had a “good fit’ W.I.N. group so we will continue next Tuesday.
Don’t forget Friday, October 7 is a workshop day- no school for students. Also, Monday, October 10 is Columbus Day no school for students.
Our Mystery Reader this week was Alyssa P.! Be on the look out for next week’s reader! The Mystery Reader will select a special book he/she would like to read to the class on Thursday the following week. Please encourage your child, when chosen, to practice their book so they will be ready to read it to the class. I will help children choose developmentally appropriate reading books. On the unveiling day I will give clues to the class to see if they know who the Mystery reader is! Our reading specialists have many learning to read books for second graders. Just let me know if your child needs assistance.
The Star Student of the Week was Gracie! We learned some interesting facts about her. Students completed a Star Student Times sheet to be compiled into a book at the end of the year! Brieanna is the next share student. I’m very excited to learn about everyone. We will each complete a Star Student page at the end of the week to be compiled into a book to bring home at the end of the year.
Happy birthday to Miss Alexianna! She celebrated her birthday in style! She was the line leader for the day, sat in the birthday chair, received a bithday book created by her classmates and a small gift. We also did the secret birthday bird of Katroo greeting!
Progress reports will be sent home next Friday. Book orders are due next Friday, October 14.
The luncheon for our “Student of the Month” winners- Boden and Juno will be rescheduled for next Thursday, October 13. Awesome work! Next month students will be helping me nominate our next “Student of the Month”. We will discuss qualities we feel a student should have and vote for a “Student of the Month” based on those qualities. Students will also write down the quality they feel the person is displaying that would make them a good candidate.
Wanted! I’m looking for donations of the following items: seasonal stickers, baby wipes, Scrabble game letter tiles, an old chair that looks like a throne for students to use as the “Author’s Share Chair” and tape measures (16) for our class. I greatly appreciate any donation you can give! Thank you very much to the grandparents, moms, dads and friends that have donated to our class!
