The Daigneault News
week #5
September 29, 2017
This week I read with students and did informal running records. My goal is to make sure students are shopping for “just right” books for their book bags. I also wanted to make sure I had a current level so we could start group work. When I do an informal running record I fill out a form with their current level and also levels to challenge them as well as a level to practice fluency. The “Update” form is for book shopping guidance. It also keeps parents informed of current levels. If you are concerened or have a question please contact me so I can share what I have collected for data.
Progress reports will be sent home in October with your child’s reading current level. Students in grade 2 should be reading at a level J/K (at progress report time in October) to be on grade level. If your child qualifies for Title 1 services you will be notified by the Title 1 staff.
Sydney was the star of the week this week. Our class learned a lot of new things about her! Come and check out our Star Student star pocket chart in the hallway! It is filled with the many things Sydney shared this week. Charlie & Tyler will be our Star Students of the Week the week of October 2.
Homework is due on Monday, October 2! Homework packet #3 will be sent home on Monday, October 2 and due the following Monday.
Thank you for returning volunteer forms. I am currently looking at making Thursday afternoons our Flex Day. I am hoping to utilize volunteers to work with small groups. I am also looking at scheduling during Writer’s Workshop as well. I plan to contact those who sent in volunteer forms by the beginning of October.
Please check your child’s Weekly Tote (white folder with the blue paw print) for weekly papers. Please remove the papers and return the tote to school. This week your child tote should have the following news from the classroom: week #5 newsletter and Unit 2 Math Newsletter.
We have a snack break every morning upon arrival. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack and drink.
Treasure Box donations needed! If you have any items such as:
McDonald Happy Meal toys, bookmarks, pencils, small toys, pens, books, small trinkets (Dollar Tree items), notebooks, crayons, Playdough, necklaces, toy rings, erasers, Matchbox cars, or fun note pads we would love to have them for our Traesure Box! Students will have Treasure Box Day next Friday. Students have been earning Paw Coins for great classroom behavior and they are super excited to cash them in for treasure!
Cooler weather is approaching and your child will need to dress appropriately. Please send layers of clothing with your child so they can adjust, as the days get cooler or warmer.
Monday is Library Day! Don’t forget to bring your books! Students have gym class on Tuesday. Please send sneakers and appropriate dress.
Toys and electronics are not permitted in my class unless they remain in the students’ school bag. It is the responsibility of the student if a toy/electronic is lost or damaged.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
