The Daigneault News
Week #21 January 26, 2018
It has been slow moving with all the snow days and late starts but we are still making progress! This week students did some pre-assessing for their new student learning goals. In writing our focus is opinion writing. Learners are learning about O.R.E.O. to help them remember what they need in the opinion pieces. In math students started unit 5. Our focus is addition and subtraction. Ask your second grader about making exact change and getting change back. Practice at home with real money. Also, practice trading up. For example trade 2 nickles for 1 dime. In Theme Time students focused on Digital Citizenship lesson #4 “What kind of information should I keep to myself when using the internet?” In spelling our whole group lessons are focusing on R-Controlled vowels. Smaller groups are either focusing on long vowels, vowel teams or inflected endings. In reading our learning goal is text features. So far, we have learned about the Table of Contents, Glossary, and Headings. Ask your child why these text features are important for extra reinforcement.
Math coins are needed for math activities. There are a few students who don’t have coins for math activities. Using real money is helpful so please (if possible)make sure your child has the following coins for their math tool kits: 20 pennies, 20 nickles, 20 dimes, and 10 quarters.
Homework is due on Monday, January 29! Homework packet #16 will be sent home on Monday, January 29, 2018 and due the following Monday. If I don’t send home a form please use a piece of paper.
Please check your child’s Weekly Tote (white folder with the blue paw print) for weekly papers. Please remove the papers and return the tote to school. This week your child tote should have the following news from the classroom: week #21 newsletter
We have a snack break every morning upon arrival. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack and drink.
Treasure Box donations needed! If you have any items such as:
McDonald Happy Meal toys, bookmarks, pencils, small toys, pens, books, small trinkets (Dollar Tree items), notebooks, crayons, Playdough, necklaces, toy rings, erasers, Matchbox cars, or fun note pads we would love to have them for our Traesure Box! Students will have Treasure Box Day next Friday. Students have been earning Paw Coins for great classroom behavior and they are super excited to cash them in for treasure!
Cooler weather is here and your child will need to dress appropriately. Please send layers of clothing with your child so they can adjust, as the days get cooler or warmer. Please bring all winter gear every day! In Maine you never know what the weather will be like from from one momment to the next!
Monday is Library Day! Don’t forget to bring your books! Students have gym class on Tuesday. Please send sneakers and appropriate dress.
Toys and electronics are not permitted in my class unless they remain in the students’ school bag. It is the responsibility of the student if a toy/electronic is lost or damaged.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
