week #2 1
February 3, 2017
Hello from Mrs. Daig’s 2nd grade!
Due to the snow day on Tuesday, January 24, Weather in Your School will reschedule for April 25.
Don’t forget: Homework packets #8 went home last week and are due back next Monday, February 6. Reading is also part of weekly homework packets. Please encourage your child to complete the reading form every week even if they do not wish to participate in the Bikes for Books program. Owlets are still in the nest! Readers need to read in order to move their owl to the 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, & 5,000 reading minutes. The Reading Minute Challenge is on!
This week students worked on author’s purpose and character traits in reading groups. In math students worked on open number lines, parts and total and solving number stories with making change.
Students may bring in Valentine’s Day cards for the class on Tuesday, February 14. If you would like to send in a treat or paper products we would love the donation! We have 16 students in our class. A class list went home last Friday.
Monster Mash Valentine Box Project: Please create a lovable monster Valentine box to hold your cards. Please make sure your name is clearly labeled on the front. Also, please make sure the card opening is large enough for a goodie bag. Please bring your Monster Mash Valentine Box to school by Monday, February 13. Please do not bring it to school before it is due to limited space. Have fun creating!
The 100th Day of school is scheduled for February 14. If your child would like to be creative and dress in a fun 100th way they may. They may decorate a shirt with 100 items such a buttons or wear 100 pony tails in their hair. Be creative and have fun! No face painting or masks please! Outfits should not interfere with learning!
Students have gym class on Tuesdays. Students need to wear appropriate dress and sneakers. Students may keep a pair of sneakers at school.
Please encourage your child to bring warm clothing for recess! Don’t forget to label all clothing! Students should bring their winter gear EVERY day.
Our class is in need of the following items: magazines, tissues, baby wipes, stickers, notebooks, and old board games to transform into Daily 5 games (for example: Scrabble). We greatly appreciate any donation you can give to our class.
Thank you to friends who have donated items or time to our class. We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness!
Again, I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
