The Daigneault News
Week #2
Greetings from second grade! We have spent the past two weeks gearing up for a productive year of learning. Our class has been focusing on the social development of our classroom community. The first week of school was spent getting to know one another through activities and fun games, practicing how to become responsible independent students through guided discovery activities, and becoming a caring, contributing member of our classroom community.
This week, students have been focusing on their hopes and dreams for a safe and productive school year. We also discussed what rules we wanted to live by in our classroom and developed a constitution of rights. We read an awesome book titled, We the Kids.
Second graders have started the NEW Everyday Math program this week. We explored some awesome math number line activities and calendar activities.
Second graders also dabbled a bit in frog jumping capitals in their handwriting program, “Handwriting Without Tears”. Ask your child about the frog jumping mystery game!
We’ve been writing up a storm about our summer vacation and our goals for this school year. We created time capsules for our hopes and dreams (goals) and plan to show our growth to moms and dads at conference time!
Mystery readers will be popping up on special assignment. Starting this Friday I will randomly select a second grader to be the “Mystery Reader”. The Mystery Reader will select a special book he/she would like to read to the class on Thursday the following week. Please encourage your child, when chosen, to practice their book so they will be ready to read it to the class. I will help children choose developmentally appropriate reading books. On the unveiling day I will give clues to the class to see if they know who the Mystery reader is! Our reading specialists have many learning to read books for first graders. Just let me know if your child needs assistance.
The Star Student of the Week begins next week. Alyssa A. will be the 1st share student. I’m very excited to learn about everyone. We will each complete a Star Student page at the end of the week to be compiled into a book to bring home at the end of the year.
Wanted! I’m looking for donations of the following items: seasonal stickers, baby wipes, coins such as quarters, dimes, pennies and nickels for our class I greatly appreciate any donation you can give! Thank you very much to the moms and dads that have donated to our class!
