Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and Happy New Year! It’s nice to get back to routine! I would like to thank everyone for the warm wishes and special gifts. All were very sweet and warmly received.
Our class would like to welcome two new students Kayden and Anna to join our 3rd grade team. Welcome!
In addition to new students we also have a new morning routine added to our schedule. Students will begin Morning Jumpstarts. You will see half sheets of paper with review skills from reading, spelling or math. Please keep in mind that these are review sheets. Students will be working independently on the Morning Jumpstart and then they will be corrected whole group and changes will be marked in marker or pen. The purpose of the Morning Jumpstart is to review grade 2 basic skills and strengthen previously taught skills so we can build upon the skills in 3rd grade. This will NOT take the place of the grade 3 curriculum.
Grade 3 has a change in our schedule too. Writer’s Workshop has been switched to the morning time period after math and Science/Social Studies is now the last class period of the day.
Homework will resume next week- January 6, 2020. Your child will have homework three days a week. I am allowing the third graders to choose their homework days to fit their personal schedules. They will also have options for their homework as well. Students will be required to have their homework pass signed after completion of homework by an adult. If the homework is completed at school, home or daycare an adult may sign their initials if they witness the completed work.
What can I do at home to help support my child in the classroom?
Help Wanted!
Thank you to the mystery donor! Someone donated a 2nd box of wipes! Thank you! We are in need of tissues only! Thank you for the wonderful support and donations of time and supplies to our class!
Winter Gear
Students need their winter gear for recess daily and for gym class. Students are starting cross country skiing in gym. Please check the paper Mrs. Printup sent home with your child before Christmas break for more information.
If you have extra snow pants, boots, mittens, and sneakers that your child can keep at school that would be helpful. Winter gear may be stored in cubbies are ready for the next day. Students should have a change of shoes so they don’t wear their boots all day too!
Please check out my website to view newsletters, important information, schedules, and upcoming events. Just log on to the site listed at the bottom of this letter.
I look forward to working with you and your child. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

What can I do at home to help support my child in the classroom?
- I can help my child practice their multiplication facts.
- I can help my child practice reading and spelling their grade 2 Rebecca Sitton words. (A new copy went home after conferences!)
- I can help my child practice writing in complete sentences and proofreading.
- I can help my child write a summary from an article or jot a story mountain or journal about their reading.
- I can help my child review the classroom and school expectations daily.
- I can help my child by checking in with the teacher on a regular basis to see how my child is doing academically or behaviorally.
- I can help my child by encouraging my child to show their homework planner daily and ask for a parent signature.
- I can help my child by frequently reviewing the Common Core State Standards “I Can” skills. (A 2nd copy will be sent home with this newsletter.)
- I can help my child by checking their homework. If you help them please make a note on their paper.
- I can help my child by letting them know we are all new to grade 3 and we will work together to figure things out! Communication is key!
