Homework
Dear Parent/s,
Homework will begin Monday, September 17, 2018. Second graders will have “weekly” homework packets. Packets will contain a reading log and (at a later date) a “good fit” phonics or reading activity. I will send packets home on Mondays and they are due the following Monday. If your child lives in two homes I will send a homework packet to both homes so the child doesn’t have to bring their reading log/activities back and forth. Please help your second grader complete the weekly reading log/activities and return it on Monday. Second graders should not be spending more than 20 minutes a night on homework. If you find your child is laboring over an assignment or taking longer than 20 minutes please STOP! Please don’t hesitate to have your second grader stop the assignment. Frustration and tears are not my goal in sending homework home. The purpose is to practice and reinforce skills that were already pretaught. It would be very helpful if the adult jots a quick note stating if they helped the child on an assignment or the child stopped due to confusion or meltdown. This will help me in planning a “good fit” packet with work that is more at your child’s ability level. Please don’t feel that your child needs to complete all assignment PLUS read every night. Help your child develop a routine to complete their work. Your child created a “Do Not Disturb” homework monkey to hang on the doorknob to help create a good homework environment. Homework is due the following Monday so students can work around their busy schedules. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.
Thank you,
Mrs. Daig
